What is an animal sanctuary?

An animal sanctuary is a facility, in our case a ranch, where animals are brought to live and to be protected for the rest of their lives. As a sanctuary we promise to take in and care for animals that have been abused, neglected, or abandoned and we will keep them for the rest of their days in a loving and safe environment. Is it possible for a sanctuary animal to become adoptable one-day? Yes, it is possible. We always strive for our animals to have homes of their own, in some cases that is not possible, in others it can change.

Buddy

Buddy is a gorgeous four year old American bull dog mix with a coat like caramel. Buddy spent two years of his young life in a shelter environment and it did not serve him well. He had a number of volunteers that walked him and played with him, but the stress of being around other dogs took its toll. Buddy is dog aggressive and the stress he must have felt being surrounded by dogs 24/7 in a shelter nonetheless must have been torture. Buddy came to LHRR when we were notified that he was going to be euthanized. Due to his dog and animal aggression we have decided that he will be a sanctuary dog here at the ranch. He has his own house with a dog bed, blankets, toys, rugs, plants, his picture and a cd player that plays reggae and soft rock. He is loved deeply here and gets out on multiple walks/runs a day. Amber

Amber came to us when another rescue asked for our help. They had been notified of a ranch with multiple feral dogs on the property that kept producing puppies. They jumped into action and found homes for all of the puppies and got the mama dogs spayed and vetted. They asked if we could take one and we of course said yes! Amber had never been inside before and had never been pet or loved. She is fearful of humans, but who can blame her? Amber is already coming out of her shell and gets so excited her entire body wiggles when she sees us. She even lets us pet her now and we are working on getting her more comfortable with a leash and going for walks. I named her Amber because of her beautiful amber colored eyes and because it is the color associated with strength, resilience, safety and confidence. Sinatra

O'l blue eyes! His name could not be more fitting for this gorgeous boy with the piercing blue eyes. Not only does he share some features with his namesake, he also follows in his footsteps with the singing! Even though he is deaf this boy loves to howl and make noise. Such a love-able pup that is very social and loves to be around his people. Sinatra was going to be euthanized due to a few bites, but luckily we were able to build him a house and provide sanctuary for him. It's hard to imagine a world without this boy in it. He brings such joy and charisma to our lives. Sinatra loves to go for walks, I mean LOVES walks. He is extremely well trained and is living his best life here at LHRR. Kobe

Kobe came to us from a local shelter that was looking for sanctuary for him and we were happy to oblige. Kobe is a very affectionate and loving dog and loyal. Some might say too loyal as he loves his people dearly and can become overly protective. His loyalty has gotten him into a bit of hot water on occasion and therefore the decision was made to find a sanctuary home for him. Kobe is a big guy with a big heart. He is very well behaved and well mannered and loves going for walks and playing with his favorite people. Kisses are never in short supply where Kobe is concerned, they are in abundance. This big ol' teddy bear is loved and I mean loved by everyone he meets. You cannot help but love him. His tail wags, his big head, his jolly personality and his eyes of amber. Kobe is very social and will make sure you know that he needs belly rubs....and more belly rubs.
